Immediately following the Calamity, the volcanic winter spewed creates a new Ice Age called the “Long Cold”. The subsequent, literally Earth-shattering and altering destruction dismantles the entire world order and effectively ends civilization as humanity knows it, and the only things left from this old era to document the catastrophe properly are sparse historical artifacts and records.

Newly exposed and volatile material creates a geothermal cascade event throughout the Ring of Fire which leads to a global, cataclysmic tectonic superdisaster called “the Calamity”, a series of volcanic eruptions (most infamously including the Yellowstone Supervolcano) and devastating earthquakes. There are some denser missions, but I'd say they're a quarter of AC7 and three quarters of Project Wingman.

Almost every moment of Project Wingman is one where you have a ton of targets to deal with in a fairly confined radius.Īce Combat 7 might be a slightly longer game - definitely is if you include the cutscenes - but most of that length is from spacing targets out so you have to fly between them, the greater amount of dialogue that you often have to listen to before the next wave or phase starts, or by chaining a bunch of mission updates together, not by drowning you in enemy radar signatures. I'd actually say it's the other way around? Basically every Project Wingman level that isn't a boss-fight, and some that are, gives you quite a lot of targets to deal with, constantly, and there's basically no 'surgical' missions you can burn through the way you can Bunker Buster or Faceless Soldier, or missions where the primary obstacle is the environment as opposed to the threat of enemies, like First Contact or Pipeline Destruction.
